In November 2017, DCM Inc invited by former Disabilities Issues Office (DIO) for Training Session, “Organizational Requirements of the Customer Service Standard. It gave a presentation on accessible customer services to people with disabilities.

The DIO was renamed to Manitoba Accessibility Office (MAO) in , it supports the Minister responsible for Accessibility in fulfilling responsibilities under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act. which includes;

  1. Developing and implementing accessibility standards under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act.
  2. Creating tools and training to assist public and private sector organizations to comply with the requirements of the Act and accompanying standards in Customer Service, Employment and Information and Communications (two remaining standards in the Design of Public Spaces and Transportation are under development).
  3. Raising public awareness of the legislation through marketing, regular contact with stakeholders via email and the publication of a quarterly newsletter and organizing public awareness events.
  4. Serving as Secretariat to the Accessibility Advisory Council, which is responsible for standard development under the Act.
In January 2022, Manitoba Accessibility Advisory Network Meeting invited Manitoba Deaf Association and Deaf Centre Manitoba, Inc for an important meeting. To share the awareness about an available information of American Sign Language (ASL) and production of documents and to discuss how we can integrate ASL into our information and communication.

The DCM Inc is the recipient of the grant funding provided by the Manitoba Government through the Manitoba Accessibility Fund. We will provide covered honoraria for presenters and ASL-English interpreters and expenses on DCM Inc’s three projects: Deaf Awareness, Mental Health and ASL V-News for 2022-2023.
